Designing a healthier internet for all

Teens today are facing a mental health crisis, and the internet plays a complex role, shaping how young people see themselves, connect with others, and navigate the world. Recognizing the need for change, Pinterest and the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital launched the Inspired Internet Pledge in June 2023: an industry-wide call for tech companies to put people over profits and design for emotional wellbeing.

Unveiled on stage at Cannes Lions, the pledge asks companies to commit to three principles: tuning for wellbeing, listening to those harmed online, and sharing lessons openly. Each signatory develops a tailored action plan, with built-in accountability.

Pinterest was the first to sign on. Now, more than 30 organizations including TikTok, Discord, and Roblox have joined the movement, working toward a healthier internet where emotional wellbeing is a measurable outcome, not an afterthought.
